The Scion Block 🥇
There are many surprises contained within the original Charles Coury Vineyard. Many years ago, we heard about a story involving Charles Coury visiting the Henri Gouges Vineyard in the early 1960's. While there, he was given permission by the owners of the Domaine to take cuttings from their recently mutated "Pinot Blanc" vines. We have approximately 18 of those plants in the “First Row”. There are also 22 clones of Chardonnay in this row. Coury suffered many losses to his mostly treasured Chardonnay cuttings due to storage issues, so these are the only remaining Chardonnay vines from his original collection. These vines along with Flora, Pinot Noir, Melon de Bourgogne, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Sylvaner are planted in the very first row that Charles Coury put into the ground in 1966. This row is also known as the ‘Scion Block’.
