2016 'The First Row' (Magnum Only)
There are many surprises contained in the original Charles Coury Vineyard. Many years ago, we heard about a story involving Charles Coury visiting the Henri Gouges vineyard in the early 1960's. While there he was given permission by the owners of the domaine to take cuttings from their recently mutated "Pinot Blanc" vines. These vines are planted in the very first row that Charles Coury put into the ground in 1966. This row is also known as the ‘Scion Block’.

The Scion Block
There are many surprises contained within the original Charles Coury Vineyard. Many years ago, we heard about a story involving Charles Coury visiting the Henri Gouges vineyard in the early 1960's. While there he was given permission by the owners of the domaine to take cuttings from their recently mutated "Pinot Blanc" vines. There are also 22 clones of unique Chardonnay in this row. Coury suffered many losses mostly due to storage issues from his original Chardonnay cuttings, so these are the only remaining Chardonnay vines from his collection. These vines are planted in the very first row that Charles Coury put into the ground in 1966. This row is also known as the ‘Scion Block’. We only make this wine in special vintages and we only bottle it in magnums. Our label was an image taken of Charles Coury and his dog “Gypsy” as they walked up “The First Row”.
