2019 DIONYSTIC 'Apollo Dionysus' Deux Vert Vineyard Syrah
Woah, buddy! Here we go! This is one of the best Syrahs ever made from the Willamette Valley. Lavender, Sauvage, Iodine, Charcuterie, Red fruits, and an incredibly clean and fresh finish. This wine clocks in at just under 12% alcohol which is shocking given the weight and depth that this wine provides. The future of Syrah in the Willamette Valley is strong. These old vines from Deux Vert Vineyard are a great proving ground.

A New Hierarchy ☀️
After many years of chasing these grapes, a change in ownership gave me an incredible opportunity. I had lusted after the historic fruit from Deux Vert Vineyard for years. I knew the history well as I know the man who planted this vineyard. When a plant reaches 25+ years in age it really begins to reveal itself and its surroundings. For the 2019 vintage, these vines hit the 23 year mark. We are just now peering into a window of incredible possibility. I am grateful for the opportunity to chaperone this wine into its early adulthood.
Our label is artwork created by the talented Leonid Ilyukhin. This is a massive (14 ft x 6.5 ft) oil painting on canvas. It was his final version of his diploma project in order to graduated from the prestigious Glazunov Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow, Russia. This is what Leonid writes:
”The title is "Apollo and Dionysus". The subject is based on a philosophical and literary concept of the Apollonian and Dionysian introduced by Nietzsche in his 1872 work "The Birth of Tragedy from the Spirit of Music". Following the concept, Apollo is a god of rational thinking, logic and order while Dionysus is a god of irrationality, emotions and chaos. So, I decided to depict Apollo surrounded by the muses and Dionysus followed by satyrs and maenads. The central figure in a red cloak is a symbolic image of a man, making a choice between these rival deities.”
Thank you, Leonid for allowing us to further share your artwork !
