2019 Vinous Obscura 'Thank You' Garanoir + Regent

$25.00
SOLD OUT - Look for next vintage

THIS WINE HAS ALTERNATING LABELS. 1. Merci, Andre Jacquinet 2. Danke, Gerhardt Alleweldt

This co-fermentation is mostly Garanoir with a splash of Regent. You’ve probably never heard of these grapes and before the 2018 vintage, I hadn’t either. Now, I think they have MORE potential than Pinot Noir in the Willamette Valley. Especially if you are committed to organic farming as both of these grapes are resistant to powdery mildew.

ALPINE FRESH 🌲

Have you ever hiked in the Alps in the Spring or early Summer? The mountain flowers are in bloom along with the sweet smell of pine tips are in the air. The wild blueberries are just starting to ripen. If you pick some, make sure you wash them off in rushing glacial run off. Yeah, that is what this wine tastes like. It smells and tastes like a early summer hike in the Alps. Now, go put on your most comfortable hiking books and crack open a bottle of this wine.

The 2019 Danke Gerhardt Alleweldt from Vinous Obscura is composed of a blend of seventy percent Garanoir and thirty percent Regent grapes (two hybrids developed in the 1970s in Germany and Switzerland respectively). Gerhardt Alleweldt was the researcher who developed the Regent grape. The wine is nicely dark and color, yet only ten percent alcohol, delivering a fine bouquet of dark berries, woodsmoke, a bit of gamebird, herb tones, dark soil and a bit of cigar ash in the upper register. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, complex and tangy, with a whisper of tannin, good focus and grip and a long, intensely flavored finish. This is quite tasty and a whole new world to me. 2020-2028. 89.
